SMP Aftercare
At Central Coast Scalp, we want you to get the best possible results from your Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) treatment. Healing plays a huge role in the final outcome, which is why we provide all clients with comprehensive aftercare guidance and high-quality Australian made products—at no additional cost.
Below is everything you need to know to support proper healing and ensure long-lasting, natural-looking results.
The First 5 Days Matter Most
The initial healing phase is crucial. Whether it’s your first or final session, it’s important to follow the same aftercare routine after every appointment. Proper care during this time promotes pigment retention and protects your scalp from irritation or infection.
You’ll also receive a printed instruction card at your appointment, just in case you need a quick reminder later on.
Daily Aftercare Routine
For the first five days after each session, follow this simple routine morning and night:
-
-
Use the provided antibacterial cleanser to gently clean your scalp.
-
Apply the included post-tattoo balm to keep the area moisturised and protected.
-
Avoid direct water on the scalp and refrain from sweating excessively. Light training or physical work is okay—just be mindful not to overheat or sweat too much.
-
Lifestyle Considerations
We’ll discuss your work and general lifestyle during your consultation so we can best schedule your appointments. In some cases we will recommend extended use of the balm pre or post appointments to enhance hydration and healing for those with naturally drier skin.
It’s normal to experience mild redness for up to 24 hours following treatment. This varies depending on your skin tone and sensitivity.
Shaving Guidelines
Wait at least 5 days before shaving with a foil shaver or Pitbull. If you use a razor, wait 7 days post-treatment to allow your scalp time to fully settle.
What to Expect
Unlike traditional tattoos, SMP typically doesn’t cause visible peeling or scabbing. You may notice the pigment softening slightly as your skin heals—this is completely normal and part of the layering process that builds a natural look over your sessions.
By following these aftercare instructions, you can ensure that your scalp micropigmentation heals properly and the results last longer. If you have any questions or concerns during the healing process, don’t hesitate to contact us for guidance.
